Stewart Golton and Carmel Harrison, who is one of the three Lib Dem candidates in this year’s all out council elections took the fight to save Strawberry Fields, Carlton, to residents this weekend.
Campaigning to help save Carlton from the development of 150 new homes they talked to concerned locals.
The mood on the streets is that sympathetic development would be compatible with the village but the plan for 150 new homes isn’t.
Stewart and Carmel explained to residents that the application has come to the fore because of Leeds City Council failing to achieve housing targets in previous years.
“People in Carlton understand the need for some new housing development and themselves recognise certain plots of land that would make perfect homes for people wihout ruining the village or placing an unsustainable burden on existing services,” said Stewart.
“People are worried that 150 more houses would push existing roads, the school and parks beyond a reasonable limit,” added Carmel.
