When council processes resulted in only half of Greengate receiving garden waste bins, Cllr Stewart Golton (Lib Dem, Rothwell), set out to find out why.
For several years, some residents on Greengate had complained that although one half of the street enjoyed garden waste collections, their side did not.
Brassed off with making special trips to the tip with their garden waste while seeing their neighbours getting picked up every fortnight, residents sought help from Cllr Golton to get them a fair deal.
The council had originally told residents that any extra bins added to the route would risk making the bin wagon too heavy.
Cllr Stewart Golton said:
“The council might have been reluctant for technical reasons to give people brown bins but it would be ridiculous to allow that to mean that one side of a street receives a service that the other side is denied, especially when they pay the same council tax.
“I’m glad to say that the council has now seen sense and the bins are now on their way.”
